Our Journey Begins: Welcome to Exploration Coffee Company

Hi—I’m Willie, the one-person team behind Exploration Coffee Company.

Coffee has always been more than a drink to me. It’s been a quiet backdrop to life’s best moments.

Growing up, there was always a pot simmering on the stove—sometimes great, sometimes not, but always ready. At my grandmother’s house, the adults gathered around the dining room table with coffee, cake, and endless stories—laughing, gossiping, just being together. At home, after-dinner coffee with my parents became a ritual, even when we didn’t say much. We’d just sit, sip, and enjoy the company before heading off for the night.

As a young adult, late-night diner runs with friends after nights out and sometimes softball games turned into hours of recounting stories over bottomless cups. Coffee on the commute, coffee with unannounced visits to my brother (always paired with jelly doughnuts), coffee to break the ice on a date or seal a business deal—it was never really about the taste back then. It was about the connection.

That’s how I still see coffee: the glue for memories, conversations, and quiet moments with the people who matter.

A lot has changed in the coffee world—more cafés, better beans, small-batch roasting—but the heart of it hasn’t. Coffee still brings people together.

After decades in telecom sales, the corporate world decided it was time for me to “retire” a little earlier than I planned. I looked at buying a gym, explored opening a café, but nothing felt quite right. Then I started digging into roasting—attending coffee shows, learning about origins, sustainability, and the stories behind the beans. I fell in love with the Bellwether roaster: electric, ventless, environmentally friendly, and perfect for small-batch craftsmanship.

One night, mid-conversation with my sister Aimee, she cut through all my overthinking and simply said, “Just do it.” I hung up, smiled, and thought—she’s right.

So here we are.

Exploration Coffee Company is about sharing exceptional small-batch coffees with stories worth telling—from co-ops supporting women producers in Colombia and Mexico to sustainable farms creating real change. I roast in small batches to highlight the natural flavors, and I offer each coffee at different roast levels so you can find exactly what you love.

My hope is simple: to put a really good cup of coffee in your hand—whether you’re making memories with family, catching up with friends, or just starting the day your way.
