Silky, caramel-sweet, and incredibly refreshing — this shaken iced espresso is a modern café classic with a homemade twist. The vigorous shake creates a beautiful thick foam layer on top. First Light’s bright, fruity notes balance the rich brown sugar perfectly. A must-try for hot afternoons!
Ingredients (serves 1):
• 2 shots (2 oz) espresso made with First Light roast (or ½ cup strong brewed coffee, cooled)
• 2 tbsp brown sugar (or quick syrup: 2 tbsp brown sugar + 1 tbsp hot water)
• 1 cup ice cubes (plus more for serving)
• ½ cup milk of choice (oat or dairy recommended)
• Optional: dash of vanilla extract or tiny pinch of salt
Instructions:
-
Brew the espresso or coffee with First Light roast. If using brewed coffee, cool slightly.
-
In a cocktail shaker or large jar with tight lid, add the hot espresso, brown sugar (or syrup), and a handful of ice.
-
Shake vigorously for 20–30 seconds until sugar dissolves and mixture is super frothy and chilled.
-
Fill a tall glass with fresh ice. Strain the shaken espresso over the ice.
-
Top with cold milk. For extra creaminess, froth the milk first. Stir before drinking or enjoy the gorgeous foam cap!
